Children living in homes across Japan are unmonitored for large parts of the day. Between traveling from home to school to school clubs to tutoring and back to home, staff, caregivers, and administrators often have no idea where the children are. Our goal, with You Me We, a NGO supporting children's homes in Japan, will be to build a platform using a vein reader hardware (provided by Mofiria a Sony subsidiary) to keep track of the children's movements and ensure their safety.
Children living in homes, orphanages, guardians, school and club staff.
You Me We, a Tokyo-based non-profit organization with more than 10 years of experience building supporting relationships with local children's home or orphanages.
The 30,000 children living in institutionalized homes across Japan are typically well cared for by a small yet dedicated staff. Ratio of staff members to children can often be as high as 1 adult to 6 kids. Although many of the homes have structured their environments into smaller family units to create a more personal space, it is difficult to offer consistent, individualized attention and guidance as they navigate from primary through high school and begin to consider their future options. Adding to the difficulties are the large number of children dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from various forms of abuse or poverty that have resulted in the child being placed into care to begin with. Another issue for kids is the reality of their financial options. Most children will not have the funds to pay for secondary education or have the ability to live with family.
Now imagine trying to keep track of 30,000 children as the move from their homes, to school, to club, to back to home. This attendance system will help alleviate some of the children and their guardians have in keeping track of everyone.
SIVENTH's in collaboration with a hardware company, Morgan Stanley engineers, the orphanages, and potential volunteers will develop a finger vein reader app that will track the student's locations as they check-in.
Finger vein recognition is a method that specifies an individual using the vein pattern inside one’s fingers.
Accompanied by an administration panel, guardians will be able to view their children's locations as they move throughout their day.

We are still getting organized so this is the perfect time to join.
This is the brief of the project requirement.

None so far.
Details about the hardware can be found here.
The current architecture can be found here.
The architecture has been finalized but the design and frontend planning are still in progress. As this is hardware dependent we are still waiting for versions of the hardware to be delivered (currently in transit).
